Hot Onion Pinwheels
Makes 1-2 dozen
1 1/2 (.25 ounce) packets of active dry yeast
1 cup hot water
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 tablespoon powdered milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 egg
4 large, thinly sliced onions
4 tablespoons butter or margarine
red pepper to taste
1. Dissolve yeast in a cup of hot tap water with 1 Tbl of sugar.
Mix 1 teas of salt, 1 Tbl butter, 1 Tbl powdered milk with 2
cup all purpose flour. Add 1 beaten egg and proofed yeast
water. Mix and knead for 10 mins, adding more flour as needed.
Let rise until doubled.
2. Meanwhile cook 4 large, thinly sliced onions in 4 Tbls butter,
add red pepper to taste.
3. Punch down dough, spread into a rectangle. Evenly spread onions
on dough, roll up from the short end. With a sharp knife, slice
into pinwheels.
4. Place on a baking sheet, let rise the second time. Bake
at 350 degrees F for about ten mins or until done.
