Becky's Oatmeal Carmelitas
Makes 2 dozen
50 light caramels (14 ounce package)
1/2 cup evaporated milk
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups quick cooking oats
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, melted
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Unwrap caramels and melt caramels with milk in saucepan.
Cool slightly.
3. In a separate bowl, combine remaining ingredients, except for
chocolate chips and nuts.
4. Press half of oatmeal mixture into a greased 13x9" pan. Bake for
10 mins.
5. Remove from oven; sprinkle crust with chocolate chips and
nuts and drizzle caramel mixture over all. Cover with
remaining oatmeal crumbs; press slightly. Bake for 15 to 20
mins longer.
