Devil Dogs 
Makes 1 dozen

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup milk
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
                   
1. Cream together butter and 1 cup sugar, add egg. Sift together 2
   cups flour, cocoa, soda, 1/2 tsp salt and baking powder. Add
   vanilla and milk. 
2. Drop by Tbsp onto ungreased cookie sheet and bake 7-8 mins at
   425 degrees F. Cool and make sandwiches with filling. 
3. To Make Filling: Combine 2 1/2 T. flour and milk and cook until
   it turns to thick paste. Cool. 
4. Cream together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/2 cup shortening,
   and 1/2 tsp vanilla. Add cooled paste and beat until fluffy.
